About

Ireni Clarke is a printmaking artist based in Sydney. Her works explore the patterns in natural structures, and celebrate the beauty of the Australian bush.
Working across a range of other mediums such as photography, screen-printing and jewellery making, the natural world is at the heart of all of Ireni’s work. After a childhood exploring the Blue Mountains and beyond, she feels a strong connection to the Australian landscape, and works as a biologist. Her studies in molecular biology and ecology helped her to see the natural world in a new light, and to appreciate the repetition of natural patterns at all scales.

Ireni sees the craft of lino printing as an opportunity to dwell on a subject and form a strong connection, and appreciates the medium for its emphasis on pattern and line. Her works encourage the audience to take a closer look at the world around them, as she believes familiarity with the natural world is the best encouragement for protecting it.
